How to deal with partners who don’t support your goals.
You’ve started the journey on your new goals. You’ve got the momentum and you’re doing it. Then you get a comment from your partner or friend that totally derails you.
All of a sudden you start to question yourself. Your momentum is halted. You start to come up with all your own excuses why you were doomed from the start.
Here are a few guidelines to set yourself up for success:
- Write down your goal so you can see it everyday and list all the reasons why this goal is important to you.
- Sweeten the pot; give yourself an incentive to work for, something to treat yourself to once you’ve reached your goal.
- Connect with people who share similar goals. This is your tribe.
- A little bit of empathy goes a long way for yourself and for those who don’t support you. This will help to not personalize the comments and smash the feelings of defeat.
Goals are all about change; big and small. Change is also about moving into unknown territory. Setting yourself up for dealing with the feelings that come with the unknown is going vital.
